High Court notice to government regarding appointment of 18 thousand junior teachers

Teacher Recruitment Case

Teacher Recruitment Case: The Odisha High Court on Friday took up a petition challenging the draft merit list released by the Odisha School Education Program Authority (OSEPA) for the recruitment of over 18,000 junior teachers in primary (classes I to V) and upper primary (classes V to VIII) schools.  .

A single-judge bench headed by Justice Viraj Prasanna Satpathi then issued notices to the state government and project director of OSEPA for their response.

Chintamani Bhuiyan and three others filed the petition seeking the court's intervention, alleging that the draft merit list of 18,805 candidates was released on January 15 in violation of the guidelines issued by the Department of Schools and Mass Education through a resolution on August 22 last year for recruitment.  Their complaint was that the eligible candidates were not placed in the merit list.

OSEPA had fixed Saturday and Sunday for document verification of merit list candidates.  The petitioners also sought an interim stay on the recruitment process.

Justice Satpati declined to grant a stay, but imposed restrictions on the finalization of the recruitment process.  "Let the document verification process continue on the scheduled date, but no final decision on final selection and appointment will be taken till January 24 (fixed date for next hearing)," Justice Satpati said.

Odisha School Education Program Authority (OSEPA) has declared Odisha Junior Teacher Result 2023 today, January 15, 2024.  The results include Arts, Science, Urdu, Telugu and Bengali as well as Category I (Class I to V).  Besides, Category II (Class VI to VIII) includes Arts, Science, Urdu, Telugu and Bengali subjects.
