Teacher Recruitment: There is good news for candidates interested in getting jobs (government jobs) in central universities. If these vacancies are filled, eligible candidates can apply. There are 5,182 teaching posts vacant in central universities as on October 31, 2024. This information was given by Minister of State for Education Sukant Majumdar in the Rajya Sabha.
The minister said that vacancies arise due to reasons like retirement, resignation and increase in the number of students. The minister said that the responsibility of filling up the posts of teachers lies with the concerned central universities. The Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission (UGC) regularly direct the institutions to make recruitment. So far, more than 7,650 teaching posts have been filled under the special recruitment drive.
UGC CU-Nirbhachan Portal Launched
UGC launched a unified recruitment portal called "CU-Select" on May 2, 2023. This portal lists the vacancies available in all central universities, making the recruitment process easy and transparent.
Mission Mode Post Filling
A total of 25,777 posts including 15,139 teaching posts have been filled in Central Higher Education Institutions in Mission Mode till October 29, 2024. This includes recruitment of 1,869 Scheduled Castes, 739 Scheduled Tribes and 3,089 Backward Class teachers.
Result of combined efforts
Institutions like CU, IIT, IIIT, NIT, IIM, IISc Bangalore and IISER have filled a total of 25,257 vacancies so far. Out of this, 15,047 posts are for teachers. This effort by the government and related institutions is considered an important step to maintain quality in higher education.
