Assistant Professor Recruitment: Rajasthan government is making new policy for recruitment of teachers in colleges.   Almost half of the sanctioned posts in these institutions are vacant due to lack of recruitment.

Data released by the higher education department for the academic year 2023-24 shows that 5,971 posts are vacant out of 12,660 sanctioned posts in 469 colleges. This shortage of teachers is hindering students from getting regular classes.

A government spokesperson said, “BJP's election manifesto has promised to hire teachers in colleges and universities, so the government is looking into the vacancies.  A policy is being prepared, aiming to regularize recruitment."

Information provided by the government indicates that a regular recruitment policy will be implemented periodically to fill up the vacancies.

Higher education expert Punnett Sharma says, "The former Ashok Gehlot-led government established almost half of the state's 469 colleges in the last five years. In most cases, the new colleges were inaugurated on temporary campuses, with teachers appointed on deputation. These colleges require teachers to conduct classes; otherwise,  It would be an injustice to every student to fill the air."

It is learned that the government is not proposing to build any new college in the upcoming full budget in July.   The objective is to make existing colleges viable in terms of grants for faculty, infrastructure and research.  Most of these colleges are running with less staff and teachers.
