Assistant Professor Recruitment: In India, there are more than 50 central universities controlled by the central government.  There are over 400 state universities as well.  These institutes offer attractive career opportunities for those who wish to take up teaching.  The University Grants Commission (UGC) has abolished PhD as a mandatory qualification for the recruitment of Assistant Professors in universities.


As of 23 February 2024, one state and four state universities have published recruitment notices.  The post of assistant professor will be appointed.  Total vacancies are 755.

Educational Qualification (Assistant Professor)


Must have 55% marks (or Master's degree with equivalent grade in grading system) in concerned / relevant subject from a UGC recognized university.


In addition to fulfilling the above qualifications, the candidate must have passed the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC or CSIR, or similar test, i.e. SLATE / SET.  As per the new UGC rules, PhD degree holders will not need to pass NET/SET.


Pay Scale of Assistant Professor


Academic Pay Level 10 will be awarded as per 7th Central Pay Commission Pay Matrix.
